Square, the payment company of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, has hired Steve Lee, former director of Google. This is apparent from a Twitter message posted on 12 June:
Hey guys. Management again. Unfortunately, things didn't work out with Gary. However, we think we've found somebody who can live up to his commitment to decentralization. Please welcome Steve Lee, aka @moneyball, to the Square Crypto team.

Steve Lee has been a director at Google for more than eight years, between 2006 and 2015. He has also been an angel investor for companies such as Lyft and Pinterest and a consultant for startups in San Francisco. In the past year he mainly started working with bitcoin (BTC) .
Bitcoin, not blockchain. Very excited about this opportunity! https://t.co/X620YX79gZ

Both Steve Lee and Square have received massive congratulations from the cryptocurrency community on Twitter. For example, Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise, writes the following:
Congrats!! @moneyball is the perfect person for this role! So happy to see

Square already announced at the end of March that Jack Dorsey is looking for people for his cryptocurrency team. Dorsey then wrote on Twitter that the company is looking for a designer and several engineers for the team. He also gave the option to be paid out in bitcoin, if they wanted to.
In contrast to the major social media competitors such as Facebook and Telegram, which are going to release their own cryptocurrency, Square seems to be completely devoted to bitcoin.
At the beginning of March , Jack Dorsey revealed during an interview with Tales from the Crypt that he had spent no less than $ 10,000 on BTC in one week. Last year the Twitter and Square CEO said during an interview with Lighting Labs that he hopes that bitcoin will become the “native currency” of the internet.
