Kyoto University launches Ripple XRPL validator as first university in Japan

Kyoto University Becomes 1st Japanese University To Run An XRPL Validator

The prestigious Kyoto University is the first Japanese university to launch the XRPL validator as part of the UBRI initiative. Information about this appeared on Twitter.

The fact that Kyoto University has started a validator for XRP Ledger became clear from a tweet by Emi Yoshikawa. This is the first validator operation by a Japanese university. Kyoto University is Japan’s second-oldest university, one of Japan’s Seven National Universities and among Asia’s highest-ranked universities. Kyoto University is famous for its world-class researchers and can boast a history of having the most Nobel laureates of all universities in Asia.

In June last year Ripple’s blockchain-based global settlements network launched its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). Within UBRI Ripple is collaborating with high ranking universities all over the globe to support academic research, technical progress, and innovation in cryptocurrency, digital payments, and blockchain.

XRP Ledger is a distributed ledger developed by Ripple based on the International Standard Interledger Protocol (ILP) that allows transactions between different ledgers. Several companies and institutions participate as validators to approve transactions.

Yoshikawa explained the significance of participating in Kyoto University as follows.

Just as the Internet has spread at the root of the grass to connect university networks and has become the basis of a stable network, a neutral university organization is also a validator and stable in the blockchain. I think it is very important to become the core of a healthy network.

I would like to see XRP Ledger validators launched at universities throughout Japan, starting with Kyoto University. University student Ripplers, please make a suggestion to your university teacher! It will be a practical project where you can learn more about how XRP Ledger works.

It seems interesting, such as competing for an Agreement Score between universities that operate validators. Validator University Championship!

Ripple, Inc. July 30, that it has partnered with the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University and the blockchain research was announced.
