Asus has announced the ROG Phone 2 on Weibo. This successor to the ROG Phone, published in 2018, is due to be released in China in July. Asus works together with Tencent Games for the telephone, to optimize the developer’s games for the telephone.
Asus does not reveal much about the ROG Phone 2 in the Weibo message. For example, it is not yet clear what the phone looks like and what kind of hardware it gets on board. Asus only reports that it will work together with the Chinese Tencent Games for the game smartphone to ‘integrate the phone’s hardware more deeply with the game developer’s software. The Weibo message talks about a July release date in China.
The first ROG Phone hit the Dutch market in November 2018 , two months after the phone came to China. If Asus maintains the same schedule, the ROG Phone 2 will come to the Netherlands in September. The first ROG Phone had a Dutch suggested retail price of 899 euros. Before that, consumers received a smartphone with a 6 “-oled screen with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. On board is a Snapdragon 845-soc, 8GB ram and a 4000mAh battery.
Tencent is a Chinese tech giant that is best known in China in terms of mobile games. In collaboration with EA, for example, it has released a Red Alert smartphone game and manages the Chinese version of PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds . However, the tech company is also working with Activision on a mobile Call of Duty game that is to be released worldwide.
